The Great Books

So, Josh and I have decided to dive into the classics and have joined an online reading group which will be going through a five-year cycle of the Great Books of the Western World. We won't be reading the entirety of the books (that is a 10-year cycle!) but I think we'll be getting a good sample. I read a number of the books during my college career due to my being an English major; however, there's something about reading them uncoerced that enables one to appreciate them a little more. So, this week it is the Apology of Plato and also Crito (which I haven't read). We "sneaked a peek" already and found it to be actually quite interesting. I'm looking forward to it and hope we can keep up with the readings and the group discussions. We're going to take about 30 minutes a night after putting the kids to bed to read aloud together. American Idol isn't all that great this season anyway...!
