Afterschooling

Elyse is in an all-day Pre-Kindergarten right now at the public school. So, as she finishes up the year, I am teaching her after school. We are going through Phonics Pathways by Dolores G. Hiskes. We skipped the first section as Elyse was already familiar with the short vowel sounds. Then, she picked up on the two-letter blending right away so we did a few lessons of those and then skipped to the review at the end, which she completed well. So, now we go through the two-letter blend review at the start of each lesson and then move on to the three-letter word lesson. If she's doing well in a lesson, she'll say "I'm CRUISING through these!" She has also begun reading the Bob Books, which is nice because she feels like she's accomplishing something when she reads a whole book!
About every other day she does a lesson in A Reason for Handwriting Level A. I'm really surprised at how well she's doing. She loves it when I go through each part and put a happy face by my favorite letter (the one she wrote the best). It makes her try really hard to write them correctly.
This summer, we will start going through Reading Pathways to supplement the Phonics. Also, I picked up some addition/subtraction workbooks from the dollar store, which I think she will enjoy since she is always going around the house adding things together.
So, I'm not necessarily doing a "curriculum" with her but as she shows readiness and desire, we are adding things in. In the fall, we'll evaluate where we're at and decide how we need to change things up for Kindergarten.
